Hey there, I’m Emily, a passionate birth doula and placenta specialist in Fallon, Nevada. I am married to my greatest friend and husband, David, and we have two absolutely incredible kids, Eli and Lucy.
As your doula, I will be here to support your desires for your labor and the birth of your little one(s). I’m excited to help you achieve your birth goals and work with you through any decisions you might be unsure about. I’m educated, but non-biased, and I'm delighted to empower you to make your own choices during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I have been trained by Doulas of North America (DONA) and am CERTIFIED both domestically and internationally. Parenthood, whether planned or serendipitous, is an emotional and physical rollercoaster and I take sincere joy in supporting you along the ride.
Background
My passion for birth began in high school after visiting a loved one in the hospital just hours after she delivered her first baby. I witnessed this glow about her that enveloped me and fed a deep passion. In college, despite majoring in Mechanical Engineering, I studied birth articles, listened to podcasts, watched youtube videos, and asked questions to every mother I knew. It was beautiful to learn that no matter how long it had been since they delivered their babies, every single person could recall their child’s birth in great detail. It’s the pivotal event between the life before and the life from now on.
Working together
I am dedicated to making your child’s birth day the best it can be. During our sessions before birth I’ll assist you with your birth plan and teach you labor techniques. During labor I will support you and your partner by creating a calming space, helping you communicate your wishes to your birth team, speaking encouragement into you, providing counterpressure to you, and helping you find the best positions to be in for your baby to enter the world.
As your doula
It is truly humbling to be a part of your journey to motherhood and my role doesn't stop when your baby is born. I'll stay with you for a little while after delivery, to help you with breastfeeding and care for you emotionally. I recognize the privacy that you might desire during the days after you deliver, so I will set up a postpartum visit 1-2 weeks later to check on you and your family to discuss your birth experience, emotional wellbeing, and assist you with breastfeeding.
